Have you had your feet adjusted today?

http://www.livestrong.com/article/528397-chiropractic-foot-care/

In general, most of us take 3,000-5,000 steps per day. In addition, many of us participate in activities, such as running and aerobic exercise, that add many more steps, as well as stress to our poor, overworked feet. Is it any wonder then why many people have aches and pains in their feet? Components such as flat feet or over-pronated feet, individual walking and running style, and the type of shoe a person wears can determine if an individual will experience foot and ankle pain. These determinants not only affect feet and ankles, but also the health of the back, knees and legs.

To Kinesio tape or not to kinesio tape?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/health/kinesio-tape-can-it-really-heal-1274186

After the olympics, Kinesio taping is no longer a question of, "What is that on that player?"  It is now, "Look at that color of tape that player has on!"

We have continued to see awesome results in the office from Dr. Stanfield helping a college soccer player to the rancher with a swollen ankle from being ran over by the "mule"!  As with anyone or thing that is successful, skeptics will be around the corner.  My response to, "Does it work or not?".........Ask the patients, athletes and ranchers!!

Chiropractic Care and Disc Conditions

Our facility has had the opportunity to work with patients having disc problems, sciatica, low back and hip pain.  80% of the population have an undiagnosed disc bulge until the person bends over to pick up a pencil off the floor.  This is when patients seek care in the office.

After a thorough neurological and orthopedic exam, chiropractic care, therapies, and rehab has been awesome treatment for disc patients.  Enjoy the pictures above!!

2012 Olympics and Chiropractic

It was amazing to watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympics with my family!  We learned history as history was being made.  We were in "Ah" as we watched the fireworks display at the end.  Finally, the next day, we took in the replays from the early morning hours events that had already happened!

As we watched, my son had commented, "Chiropractors are so much smarter than other Doctors!  You really know how to take care of the human body!"  Momma quickly replied, "Yes, but if was not for them, Aren and I may not possibly be around!"

DC's do know the body well and how it works!  Occassionally, we need all disciplines of Healthcare to take care of the whole patient or in this case, athlete!

Chiropractic is in the Olympics in London!  Even, the current fastest man is using Chiropractic to allow his body to work better!!

ART by Dr. Stanfield

 Active Release Techniques

ART is an art in itself.  Dr. Stanfield has been getting phenomenal results using this myofascial technique.  ART is the acronym for Active Release Technique.  Specifically at Integrated Health and Wellness, Dr. Stanfield has worked with numerous neck and lower back patients/athletes improving their function of life!

I wanted to share a bit more of the history and how A.R.T works.

ART has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients' symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients' problems.

The basic premise is simple, just not easy. Shorten the tissue, apply a contact tension and lengthen the tissue or make it slide relative to the adjacent tissue. It's as simple as playing a piano and just as difficult.

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

If you have any questions, please email, call or stop by and get the answers that you have been waiting to ask!!

Kinesio Taping

Our office have been able to utilize the benefits of Kinesio Taping for the past several months. This has been an awesome modality to utilize with our current rehabilitative techinques. I have currently submitted my exam to become a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner. I will be one of four Doctors of Chiropratic in the state of Kansas with this distinction.

Kinesio Taping is a techinque of applying kinesio tape (thin, elastic, colored, strips of stretchable tape) on joints and muscles where stability and support is needed. It is a non-restrictive taping method, opposite of white athletic tape, used to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused, tired muscles, and speed healing.

HOW IT WORKS!
When properly applied, you don't even know the tape is there. The practitioner places it on lightly stretched skin from one end of a muscle, joint, or tendon to the other. For muscle support or facilitation, the tape is applied from muscle origin to muscle insertion. For rehabilitation or muscle inhibition, the tape goes on in the opposite direction.

The taping techinque is based on the body's own natural healing process. Rather than strap down the muscle, the philosophy is to give free range of motion and allow the body's own muscular system to heal itself. Application of kinesio tape encourages muscle to function as they would if they did not need the tape. This in turns, not only improves body movement, but circulation of venous and lymph flow, body circulation, etc.

CONDITIONS TREATED
Kinesio taping is effective in relieving carpal tunnel symptoms, arthritis, plantar fascitis, and shoulder pain. Other conditions that have been treated with Kinesio taping are: TMJ syndrome, headaches, flat feet, low back conditions (disc problems, sprain/strain, sciatica, etc), Post ACL rehabilitation, hamstring and hip flexor strains, shin splints, patellar tendonitis, grinding of the knees, posterior knee pain, rotator cuff syndrome, cervical sprain/strain, whiplash, tennis elbow and trapezius tightness to name a few!

If you would like more information regarding the kinesio taping, please call our office. If other Healthcare Professionals would like to refer patients for the Kinesio Taping services only, our office will accomodate your patients for those services!!

October 2009 - National Chiropractic Month

National Chiropractic Month
&
FREE BIOFREEZE SAMPLES

In conjunction with National Chiropractic Month, you are invited to stop by the office at 1319 East First Street in McPherson and ask for free biofreeze and register to win a 32oz pump of biofreeze.

During October, you can receive a complimentary posture screening, gait or foot analysis, a demostration of kinesio taping, and/or consultation.

The month of October has been declared as the "National Chiropractic Month". It was established to raise public awareness of the what chiropractic is and the benefits of chiropractic. This month was consolidated with two other awareness months: Spinal Health Month and Posture Awareness Month.

As a whole, Chiropractic has become a mainstream in alternative and traditional healthcare. Here are few interesting facts relating to Chiropractic:

-- Chiropractic is the largest, most regulated, and best recognized of the
complementary and alternative medicine professions. -- American
Chiropractic Association
-- The federal government provides chiropractic benefits for veterans,
military personnel and Medicare patients. -- American Chiropractic
Association
-- A major four-year study in the United States, published in the American
Medical Association journal, The Archives of Internal Medicine,
concluded that medical benefit plan members with chiropractic coverage
returned to work faster, had lower claim costs and experienced fewer
interventions such as MRIs compared to plan members without
chiropractic benefits.

I would like to share with you the how, what, when, where of CHIROPRACTIC. It is a scientific fact that your brain, spinal cord and the rest of your nerves control every aspect of your body. Hindering the nerve "connections" between your brain and your body through injuries, accidents, stress, diet related issues could lead to ill health. A common source of interference comes from the moving bones that encase the "information superhighway" of your spinal cord. This source is called the verterbral subluxation.

This nerve pressure can cause numbness, weakness, or the under-performance of organs and tissues. Or, spinal misalignments (subluxations) can cause nerve tissue to stretch, chafe, or become irritated. This can distort nerve messages between your body and your brain. The result? Hyperactive organ function, blood pressure, or even pain.

The focus of CHIROPRACTIC is on the integrity of your nervous system. A thorough examination helps locate areas of nervous system compromise. The moving bones of the spine are common culprits. Specific chiropractic adjustments help reduce these subluxations or interferences. The intent is to restore your body's ability to regulate and heal itself.

Chiropractic care is simple. It is natural. It honors the wisdom of your body. And it has helped millions enjoy relief and better health for more than a century.

Call today for your Chiropractic evaluation!!! If you want to discuss your health related situation first, we can schedule a consultation to see if you would be a chiropractic candidate.

Blessings and Health to You,

Dr. Brandon Trost

Six things to lower risk of BP

The US Dept of Health and Human Services are realizing that health conditions can be resolved with other approaches along with mainstream medicine. In a recent article, women had six things that could help lower their risk of high blood pressure. Those things are as follows:

1) keep a normal weight
2) exercising an average of 30 minutes a day
3) eating a healthy diet
4) drink alcohol in moderation
5) avoid OTC pain relieves
*6) taking 400 micrograms (not milligrams) or more of supplemental folic acid

Supplementation is becoming more acceptable in traditional medicine. The study to use folic acid, as recommended by the HHS, is in the Journal of American Medical Association and supported by the National Institutes of Health. This article can be found at www.hhs.gov/news/healthbeat/2009/08/20090827a.html.

I suggest that you are advised by a healthcare provider, Doctor of Chiropractic or Medical Physician, as you begin to take various forms of supplementation due to harmful interactions with other prescribed medications or herbal supplements.

It is my opinion that we will see more and more of "alternative" healthcare being used with traditional medicine as we see changes with our healthcare system.

Health and Wellness to You,
Dr. Trost
